Cisco Systems Buys Flip Video Maker
ByCisco Systems is giving their competitors a run for their money with another step towards becoming a major player in the consumer electronics niche. On Thursday, Cisco Systems announced that it has acquired Pure Digital Technologies for $590 million in stock and an additional $15 million in incentives to Pure Digital employees for retention purposes.
Pure Digital is well known for the Flip mini camcorder that it introduced in 2007. The camcorder has been a huge hit with consumers because of its affordability, tiny size and its ease in uploading videos to the internet through a built-in USB connection.
In 2008, Pure Digital and CafePress teamed up in a promotional effort which allowed CafePress shopkeepers to create custom designs for the Flip and offer them to customers in their shop. As of now, I don’t forsee a change in that agreement and suspect that CafePress shopkeepers will be allowed to continue with this endeavor.
