Alex..... I was really disappointed in Yahoo over this move... I think I have one domain that I got with my Dreamhost account, but other than that I always use GoDaddy now..... it was fairly easy to transfer the few I had spread around... I try to keep one of the sales banners up at POD in the sidebar because their domain names are usually cheaper than most others.... right now, it's $7.49.... a LOT better than the stinkin' $35 that Yahoo wants... I know a few people don't like them for some reason, but I've never had a problem..... they give you PLENTY of heads up that you have a domain that is about to expire.... I start getting emails about 3 months before the date.... and they keep sending them often until you renew.....

I too host most of my domains with Yahoo, and I'm going to have to find a new registrar. I didn't really realize what was going on until recently, and needless to say I found it pretty disingenuous on their part. The one thing I liked about Yahoo was that the auto renewed my domains, so I never had to worry about forgetting to renew.

BTW one of my minions was kind enough to give me the email that Yahoo is sending customers. Here it is with personal info removed:

Dear xxxxxxx,

Thanks for using Yahoo! Domains. We're writing to remind you that it's time for the annual autorenewal of your service.

Your Domains plan, associated with the domain xxxxxxx.com, will renew on (DATE REMOVED). If your billing information is up-to-date, there's no need to do a thing (except keep enjoying your service).

Important note: Beginning on July 1, 2008, Yahoo!'s annual domain renewal price increases to $34.95 per year.

You can verify your billing information by visiting https://billing.yahoo.com/ and clicking the Update link next to your plan. Click the gray Edit button to the right of your payment method to review your payment details.

(Please note that the billing center will not reflect the new $34.95 domain-renewal price until July 1. Until that time, you will continue to see the old renewal price next to your plan.)

Have questions? Please visit our help center or contact us anytime.

Best regards,

The Yahoo! Small Business team

Yeah.... I thought it was a hoax when I first heard the rumors.... LOL

Their problem is that they're NOT the only game in town... plenty of competition that will step in and gladly take over....

I really don't know how they thought this plan would survive...

If you decide to transfer, plenty of registrars out there offer great deals. We offer free Privacy with the transfer or purchase of 5 domains. We also have a FREE one-year extension included plus all the time remaining on your existing registration.

There are other registrars out there who do the same types of things. You just have to search around and find the best deals.

I have all of my domains hosted either here or GoDaddy. No probs so far.

 Thanks for letting me know! I registered my daughter's domains there ... neither expire any time soon ... but I think now might be a good time to move them ... egads ... this reminds me of "back in the olden days" when Network Solutions was the only game in town and that was about the price of a domain per year then ... I was thrilled when prices dropped.

I wonder if people at Yahoo are getting a cost of living wage increase because of rising gasoline costs, grocery store rising prices, etc and this is how they plan to pay for those wage increases?
